The Sydney System

Jake Lakewood, manager of a large company in Sydney, is found dead. There is a farewell letter; the case seems clear: suicide. The chief of police wants it closed quickly and gives the investigating inspector little chance to examine the inconsistencies.

Peter Tarrotta receives a package from Jake, his former fellow student. "Bring it to light," Jake writes, and the envelope holds five floppy disks with addresses and data – comprehensive information about a secret organisation in Sydney that steers all the large international corporations. Seven bosses run the firm, among them leading figures from politics and business and nearly every significant media company.

Possessing the disks is life-threatening. Peter hides his wife and children with Aboriginal friends on an island by the Barrier Reef. The first inhabitants know that an evil power threatens the balance of the world. They cannot intervene themselves, because that power lies outside their culture and religion – but they can help Peter and his allies in the police with their own means: with their ancient knowledge and their magical powers.

The only chance of destroying the organisation is to publish the lists in the press. Yet the firm will stop at nothing to close the leak.
